The International Safeguards Project Office at BNL is now accepting applications for an IAEA Junior Professional Officer position in NDA simulations. The three year assignment in Vienna, Austria will contribute to NDA system projects, specifically:

  • Maintaining and improving the methodology, tools and associated documentation related to the QM of numerical simulations of NDA instruments.
  • Applying the methodology in developing, validating and running calculations supporting the development, testing and calibration of selected NDA systems
  • Providing occasional field support for the validation of simulation results and deployment of NDA systems
  • Facilitating the implementation of the QMS of the Department of Safeguards, and reviewing the technical procedures currently in use for compliance with the QMS guidelines

Candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, physics or a related field, and a minimum of two years of experience relevant to the position (a completed Master’s degree can be considered in lieu of experience). Proficiency with MCNP or other simulation software packages is needed. Experience in detection and characterization of nuclear and radioactive material and/or operation of nuclear facilities is an asset.
