Idaho State University
Idaho State University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Physics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics. We seek outstanding candidates who can provide high quality instruction and complement our current research emphasis with an active, externally funded research program. The position involves teaching courses ranging from introductory to graduate level, mentoring of graduate students, research, and service. Salary is competitive. The principle research emphasis is on applications of nuclear science using the Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC), a large accelerator based research center at ISU. Research areas include nuclear physics, pulsed power, novel radiation beams, accelerator physics, photon activation analysis, medical isotope development and commercialization, non-destructive materials analysis, and homeland security and nuclear non-proliferation/safeguards. In addition, the Physics Program has ongoing research collaborations with several national laboratories. IAC resources include an S-Band 6 kW electron LINAC, a 44 MeV LINAC capable of picosecond pulses, a Tri-MeV 30 kA pulse power accelerator, and a 25 MeV electron LINAC. The physics program offers B.A., B.S., & M.S. degrees in Physics and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics. Located in the heart of the Northern Rockies, ISU is within a few hours’ drive of Yellowstone, the Tetons, Sun Valley, world-class skiing facilities in northern Utah, and numerous hunting, fishing, rafting, and mountain-biking opportunities. DESCRIPTION
The Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley welcomes applications for a postdoctoral scholar to support a project on radiation detection for nuclear security applications. The goal of this work, in collaboration with Lawrence Berkeley and Sandia National Laboratories, is to develop an advanced compact neutron imager for localization and characterization of special nuclear material. Work will be performed at the 88-Inch Cyclotron at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Sandia National Laboratories California site.
The Nuclear Engineering Department seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar employee, in the area of Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or in a closely related field, at 100% time. The candidate will perform work under the supervision of Dr. Bethany Goldblum.
Appointment Length:
This is a full-time, one-year position and the appointment is renewable for a second year depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Anticipated start date is January 2018.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will contribute through software and hardware development for the localization and imaging of radiation emitting materials. The work encompasses laboratory experiments and testing of devices for specific applications; scintillator characterization and light yield measurements; modeling and simulation of neutron/gamma localizers and imagers; and algorithm development for particle identification and image reconstruction.
Basic Qualifications:
• The completion of all PhD degree requirements except the dissertation at the time of application.
Additional Qualifications (by start date):
• Must have a PhD or equivalent degree in Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or other closely related discipline
• Experience with aspects of gamma and/or neutron radiation detection hardware, data acquisition, data analysis, or simulation; may be in the context of physics instrumentation or applied R&D
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated creativity and highly developed problem solving skills
• Superior academic achievement and publication record
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and teamwork
• Demonstrated proficiency with scintillator detectors and nuclear instrumentation
• Experience with nuclear physics data analysis (e.g., ROOT)
• Demonstrated proficiency in Monte Carlo based radiation transport codes (e.g., GEANT4)
• Demonstrated experience in design optimization of radiation detectors and imaging systems
Salary:
The full-time annual salary will be $55,000 – $69,000.

The Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking applications to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level starting August 1, 2017. Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in nuclear engineering-related subjects, generating externally funded research, advising graduate students, writing scholarly journal articles, and providing service to the department, college, university, and community. Applicants must have a doctorate in Nuclear Engineering or a closely related field by the effective date of appointment.
Applicants should be able to contribute to existing courses and research activities in nuclear engineering, as well as to develop new avenues of research and teaching. The preferred areas of research and teaching specialization include reactor physics, reactor dynamics and safety, or advanced reactor design. However, research experience in the areas of nuclear materials research with a focus on nuclear fuels or materials degradation in fission or fusion reactors; nuclear system instrumentation & controls; monitoring and diagnostics; reactor dynamics; nuclear security; nuclear materials safeguards; nuclear medicine; nuclear chemistry; or numerical methods development for nuclear engineering applications, will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated research success that complements existing University of Tennessee strengths, and with the ability to demonstrate collaborative research activities. Postdoctoral Scholar – Nuclear Engineering -College of Engineering
UC Berkeley research group in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar, at $60,000-$70,000 per year in the area of Nuclear Engineering or in a related field, at percent time 100%. The responsibilities of the candidate include the following: following reproducible practices for computational science, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, collaboration on grant proposal submission and some teaching (optional). Potential projects include: deterministic methods for neutron transport, hybrid methods for neutron transport, coupled multi-physics for reactor analysis, machine learning applied to nonproliferation and/or reactor, as well as operations and safety and Monte Carlo on advanced architectures.
Basic Qualifications:
• The completion of all PhD degree requirements except the dissertation at the time of application.
Additional Qualifications (by start date):
• Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Nuclear Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics, or in a closely related field on or prior to start date.
• Proficient in at least one computing language such as C++, Python, Julia, Fortran, etc.

• Willingness to take on and aptitude for leadership and mentoring roles.
• Willingness to perform some teaching duties.
• Software development skill such as version control, shell navigation and scripting, unit testing frameworks, build systems, etc.
• Experience with high-performance computing and/or advanced architectures.
• Experience with computational neutron transport.
• and/or experience in design and analysis in nuclear applications (ideally energy, but nonproliferation and shielding also valuables).
The expected start date is as soon as possible and is a 100% appointment. The initial appointment is for 1 year and the appointment is renewable for a second year depending on availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

American Chemical Society’s Nuclear and Radiochemistry Summer Schools, is seeking to identify outstanding undergraduates who might be interested in, and qualified for, the program. They are seeking curious and highly motivated students with strong science backgrounds. If selected, these students receive an all-expenses paid opportunity to complete a 6 week summer course in Nuclear and Radiochemistry in either CA or NY. They also earn hours (tuition paid) of undergraduate chemistry credit through either San Jose State University or SUNY-Stony Brook. Selected students also receive a stipend of $4,000.

Nonproliferation Summer School at Los Alamos
Los Alamos National Laboratory will be hosting its first annual Dr. G. Robert Keepin Nonproliferation Summer School during June and July of 2017. The eight to 10-week intensive schedule will consist of hands-on training complete with seminars and tours, as well as a research internship. We hope to bring together 30 of the best university students and a handful of experts in the nonproliferation world, exposing everyone to the unique facilities that LANL has to offer.

CNEC JFA Faculty Position
The Department of Nuclear Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering. We are the only nuclear engineering program in the state of North Carolina and one of the premier departments in the southeast United States. The Carolinas currently contribute to the advancement of the nuclear enterprise regionally, nationally, and internationally. Through collaborative efforts of various stakeholders, NC State’s Nuclear Engineering Department is increasing its footprint on the national and global levels. The strengths of the Department include a growing faculty, rising graduate enrollments, and increasing research funding. The Department houses excellent research facilities including the PULSTAR research nuclear reactor and the Consortium for Engineering Applications of Radioisotopes (CEAR) that has maintained continuous industrial funding since 1980. NC State is a member of the consortia that manage Idaho National Lab (INL) and Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL) for the US Department of Energy (DOE). In 2014, NC State was awarded a $25M grant by the DOE National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to create the Consortium for Nonproliferation Enabling Capabilities (CNEC) comprised of seven partner universities and three national laboratories. CNEC’s vision is to become the preeminent research and education hub dedicated to the development of enabling technologies and technical talent for meeting the present and future grand challenges of nuclear nonproliferation. The Department’s diverse research portfolio is organized along four major tracks: (1) radiation and radioisotope applications engineering including nuclear security, (2) fission engineering, (3) plasma and fusion engineering, and (4) cross-cutting areas including nuclear computational science and nuclear materials science. Specific sub-areas of interest given the nuclear security emphasis are radiation detection including spectrometry and imaging, fuel cycle analysis, and plasma-based radiation sources. The duties and responsibilities of this position include: • Teach 1-2 undergraduate and graduate level courses per semester in nuclear engineering.
